Willow Mount Cemetery was established in the mid 1840's, at a time when the Old City Cemetery was reaching full capacity. The first recorded burial was Frances, infant daughter of James and Catherine M. Wortham, who died October 19, 1844. She was buried on the brow of the hill near the circle drive in range eight. The original survey ran 858 feet east and west.
Nearly six hundred unknown fallen Confederate soldiers rest along the North side of Confederate Lane.
