Water Safety & Lifeguarding

Our staff Lifeguards  are all certified through the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program.  There is a combined 50+ years experience! They Complete an average of four hours each month continuing education & skill training to work with Shelbyville Recreation Center.


  • No Running
  • No rough play, pushing, or dunking
  • No food or drink in the pool
  • No glass in pool area or locker room
  • Appropriate swimming attire must be worn- No denim, see-through, or cutoffs allowed
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a person of responsibility at least 16 years of age
  • Infants and toddlers that are not “potty trained” must wear a swim diaper
  • No diving except in designated areas
  • Floats, balls, and other foreign objects are only allowed at Lifeguard’s discretion
  • Anyone with skin lesions or evidence of disease will be restricted from using the pool
  • Recreational employees, aquatic staff, or lifeguards are not responsible for any lost or stolen items
  • No swimming under or around the bulkhead, unless authorized by the aquatics supervisor

Anyone not following the rules or regulations or requests of the aquatic staff maybe suspended from all city recreational activities
